MANILA, Philippines — Two persons were injured when a fire razed a slum community in Tondo, Manila yesterday morning.

Fire responders sounded the first alarm as the blaze engulfed at least 30 houses at the Parola Compound at around 4:30 a.m.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the blaze reached third alarm at around 5:17 a.m.

Firefighters declared the fire under control before 7 a.m.

Leopoldo Sasalo Jr., 28, a firefighter volunteer, suffered lacerations in his left hand.

Three-year-old Michaela de Guzman suffered burns and was bitten by a dog while escaping from the fire, according to arson probers.

The fire displaced some 180 families who are taking shelter at the Delpan center.

In Malabon, a man was injured when a fire struck a two-story house in Barangay Concepcion on Sunday.

Tom delos Santos, 53, suffered cuts in his left arm and was given first aid treatment by Emergency Medical Service personnel.

Damage to property was estimated at P225,000.

In Quezon City, a plastic warehouse caught fire along P. De la Cruz street, 5 Star Compound in Barangay Nagkaisang Nayon yesterday.

The fire broke out at past 12 a.m. and lasted until 6:41 a.m.

Arson investigators said the flames spread to two other establishments in the area.

Probers said at least P70 million worth of property was destroyed in the fire.

A fire officer, Jaymark Mapuyan, suffered second-degree burns.
