Motorcycle taxis still banned in Baguio

Artemio Dumlao - The Philippine Star

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines —  Motorcycle riders operating as public transport vehicles are still banned in this city.

The Land Transportation Franchsing and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in the Cordilleras said there is no law allowing motorcycle taxis to ply the streets and carry commuters here.

“There are no authorized motorcycle taxi operators in the city of Baguio,” the LTFRB regional office said. ”The riding public is urged to refrain from patronizing any individual or company providing motorcycle-for-hire services.”

The LTFRB also warned residents against patronizing the InDrive taxi app and Maxim, which were recently declared as “colorum” for operating without accreditation.

InDrive operates in Baguio, Bacolod, Pampanga, Cebu, Iloilo and Cagayan de Oro and sets fares based on ”negotiations” with passengers.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong ordered the arrest of violators.
