BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — A policeman died while being treated in a hospital after he accidentally shot himself in Bangued, Abra on Tuesday.
Cpl. John Paul Ayon-ayon, 33, a resident of Sto. Domingo, Ilocos Sur, was reportedly cleaning his service firearm, a 9mm pistol, at the motorpool of the Abra police office at around 2 p.m. when one of the bullets jammed. He tried to remove the bullet, but it fired, hitting him in the chest.
Forensic investigators found a bullet shell stuck in Ayon-ayon’s gun.
The family of the victim requested an autopsy.
