Anti-crime ops in Metro Manila net 1,000 suspects

MANILA, Philippines — The National Capital Region Police Office arrested over 1,000 suspects in the past week under the NCRPO’s anti-crime policy dubbed Oplan SAFE.

Records from the NCRPO showed that from Aug. 22 to 28, police apprehended 365 drug suspects during 217 anti-narcotics operations that yielded at least P201 million worth of drugs.

In the campaign against loose firearms, the NCRPO arrested 30 suspects and confiscated 70 firearms as well as four explosives.

A total of 381 suspects were nabbed for illegal gambling during 121 operations, which resulted in the confiscation of P43,000 in cash bets.

The NCRPO also arrested 76 most wanted fugitives and 225 wanted people in Metro Manila.

On Thursday, the NCRPO launched its anti-crime and peacekeeping policy Oplan SAFE with the deployment of 10,000 police officers conducting random checkpoints in Metro Manila to deter criminals.
