Pasay fire leaves 39 families homeless

MANILA, Philippines — At least 39 families or 75 persons lost their homes in a fire that razed a residential area in Pasay City on Thursday.

Mayor Imelda Calixto-Rubiano led the distribution of relief assistance to the affected residents of Barangay 113 Zone 14. Among the items are food packs, towels, hygiene kits and blankets.

The Bureau of Fire Protection said the fire started at around 7:03 a.m. and reached second alarm. It destroyed at least 28 houses along Dimasalang and Vergel streets.

Arson investigators said the fire originated in a rented apartment. Firefighters doused the flames at around 8:15 p.m. No casualties or injuries were reported.

An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fire, which destroyed P125,000 worth of property.

The affected residents sought temporary shelter at the Padre Zamora Elementary School.
