Ex-Batangas town vice mayor slain

MANILA, Philippines — A former vice mayor of Lobo town in Batangas died yesterday, hours after he was shot during a birthday party.

Romeo Sulit, the incumbent Sangguniang Bayan secretary, was reportedly delivering his message at a debutante party in Sitio Cupang in Barangay Tayuman at around 8 p.m. on Thursday when an unidentified man appeared from behind and shot him in the head.

Sulit was brought to the Lobo District Hospital and later transferred to the Batangas Medical Center Hospital, where he died while being treated.

Capt. Roy Cuevas, Lobo police chief, said probers still have no leads in the killing as the victim has no known enemies.

Sulit served as vice mayor of Lobo from 1998 to 2010. – Arnell Ozaeta
