3 activists nabbed for anti-Marcos tarp

MANILA, Philippines — Three youth leaders were arrested yesterday by police while attempting to hang a banner at a footbridge along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City.

Nagkaisa, a coalition of labor groups, said the activists were apprehended while hanging an anti-Marcos tarpaulin near the Commission on Human Rights compound.

Akbayan Youth leader RJ Naguit was nabbed along with Sentro Youth members Benjamin Alvero and Jane Labongray. They were brought to Camp Karingal.

Sentro secretary general Josua Mata said police violently arrested the activitists even after the end of their brief protest action.

The Akbayan Youth said the activists were released following a dialogue with the police.

“No case was filed against them,” the group said.
