MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) intercepted at least P124 million worth of smuggled poultry products from China, officials reported yesterday.
In a statement, BOC Deputy Commissioner for intelligence Raniel Ramiro said Daniry Consumer Goods Trading declared a shipment of hotpot balls but its shipping container held P75 million worth of frozen duck parts and chicken thighs.
Jeroce Consumer Goods Trading misdeclared P49 million worth of frozen poultry and pork products as steamed buns.
Ramiro said both consignees will face appropriate legal sanctions and cases for misdeclaration of goods.
Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service director Jeoffrey Tacio said they intercepted the shipments after the CIIS received “derogatory information” that the shipments were suspected to contain misdeclared agricultural products.
Manila International Container Port district collector Romy Allan Rosales issued the corresponding warrant of seizure and detention and ordered the filing of charges against the two consignees for violation of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act and related laws and regulations.
