MANILA, Philippines — The Manila city government has surpassed its immunization target for children against vaccine-preventable diseases.

The local health department inoculated 26,536 children, exceeding the target to immunize 18,469 kids, according to the city’s public information office.

In a Facebook post, Mayor Isko Moreno thanked the city health office for its efforts and the Department of Health (DOH) for recognizing Manila’s vaccination program.

Moreno said the city achieved 143 percent vaccination rate for children’s diseases.

The nationwide program called “Chikiting Bakunation” seeks to give jabs to children who missed their routine immunization.

Vaccines against polio, measles, hepatitis B, pneumonia and other diseases were among those offered in the nationwide drive, according to the DOH.

Meanwhile, the Caloocan government was also recognized by the DOH for its immunization program.
