MANILA, Philippines — A Grab driver who allegedly posted a death threat against presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Twitter was arrested in Quezon City on Thursday night.
Michael Go, 49, was apprehended by operatives of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD)’s Anti-Cybercrime Unit in Barangay Sta. Lucia at around 10:30 p.m.
Prior to Go’s arrest, representatives from Marcos’ camp lodged a complaint against him before the QCPD on Wednesday for his tweet, wherein he threatened to kill the former senator.
Go’s Twitter post read: “ I was blocked by Marcos Jr. in 2016. Pakisabi mag ingat siya sa Tandang Sora QC. Pag dumaan siya dun babarilin ko siya di ako takot makulong (Tell him to be careful in Tandang Sora QC. If he passes through there, I will shoot him. I am not afraid to go to jail).”
“Hindi rin ako takot mamatay. Isang malaking karangalan ipaghigante mga kasama ko aktibista biktima ng martial law (I am also not afraid of dying. It would be an honor to avenge my activist friends who were victims of martial law),” Go said.
Twelve police officers tracked down Go’s whereabouts with assistance from Barangay Sta. Lucia peacekeeping officers.
Village officials went to Go’s residence and informed him about the allegations against him.
Go went to the barangay hall, where he was turned over to the police for investigation.
The suspect is being held on charges of grave threat in relation to Republic Act 1075 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act.
