MANILA, Philippines — A medical student was arrested for selling cannabis oil, a derivative of marijuana, and violating the election gun ban, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said on Friday.

Agents of the NBI’s special action unit caught Rose Vill Maldo in a sting at a coffee shop in Barangay Doña Imelda, Quezon City on March 9.

He sold online cannabis oil, which he claimed could cure cancer and epilepsy, provide pain relief and be added to the juice used in electronic cigarettes, the agency said in a statement.

Lawmen confiscated from Maldo 27 milliliters of cannabis oil valued at P26,000, the NBI said.

The bureau’s forensic unit confirmed the oil contained tetrahydrocannabinol, a substance prohibited under Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Maldo was also caught with two 9mm pistols loaded with live bullets, both registered under his name. He did not show any proof he was exempted from the election gun ban.

The suspect also presented a fake identification card from the Professional Regulation Commission.

Maldo faces charges for selling illegal drugs, violation of the election gun ban and falsification of public documents.
