Gun ban violators rise to 1,346

MANILA, Philippines — Police arrested 36 persons for violating the election gun ban on Tuesday, bringing the number of those apprehended since Jan. 9 to 1,346.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) said among those apprehended in 1,216 law enforcement operations were 1,297 civilians, 18 security guards, 11 policemen and nine soldiers.

At least 1,013 firearms, 429 bladed weapons, 61 explosives and 6,003 bullets were seized.

The PNP said 450 of the violators were arrested in Metro Manila, 152 in Central Visayas, 147 in Central Luzon, 146 in Calabarzon and 74 in Western Visayas.
