DENR plants mangroves in Central Luzon wetlands

SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, Philippines — More than 1,000 mangrove propagules were planted by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and its partner agencies and companies in various areas in Central Luzon.

Species of bauang bakawan, bakawan babae and bakawan lalaki were planted at the Sasmuan Bangkung Malapad critical habitat eco-tourism area in Pampanga, Bagac River in Bataan and Uacon Lake in Zambales.

“The activities were part of the month-long celebration of World Wetlands Day. This is fundamental in nourishing wildlife habitat including the wintering area of migratory birds and breeding grounds of marine species,” DENR-Central Luzon chief Paquito Moreno Jr.
