Ghio Ong - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Active COVID cases in Valenzuela and Navotas sharply increased yesterday, with both cities reaching a tally of more than 200.

The Valenzuela City government reported 238 active cases yesterday, with 80 new confirmed cases.

In Navotas, 99 new cases were added to the tally yesterday, totaling 220 active cases. All of the city’s 18 barangays registered active cases.

Meanwhile, Pateros reported a total of 38 active cases. Mayor Miguel Ponce III has ordered that all basketball courts in the town be closed until further notice.

“We are sorry to the players but we are trying to prevent a super spreader event because we know you cannot play with face masks on,” he said.

He also instructed the city’s law enforcers to arrest residents not wearing face masks or not wearing them properly while outdoors.
