Fire hits Quezon City public market

MANILA, Philippines — A fire broke out at a public market in Quezon City yesterday, destroying at least 25 stalls and two vehicles.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the blaze at the Riverside Public Market in Barangay Commonwealth broke out at around 4:10 a.m. and reached first alarm.

The fire was placed under control at around 4:33 a.m. and doused by firefighters at around 4:54 a.m.

Arson probers said the fire originated at the canteen owned by a certain Ronel Mendoza. It spread to 25 other stalls in the market.

A four-wheeled vehicle and a motorcycle were also hit by the fire.

There were no casualties reported during the blaze.

Probers have yet to determine the cause of the blaze, which destroyed at least P500,000 worth of property.

In Parañaque, around 37 families were left homeless by a fire that hit GK Maralit Compound in Barangay Don Bosco at around 1:22 p.m. on Friday.

The fire reached second alarm, destroying 20 houses and P50,000 worth of property, before it was put out at around 2:39 p.m.

The cause of the fire is still being probed, the BFP said. – Ralph Edwin Villanueva
