MANILA, Philippines — San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora yesterday led the inspection of cinemas in the city to check compliance with COVID-19 protocols.

Moviehouses in Metro Manila reopened yesterday after the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) eased the region’s quarantine restrictions under Alert Level 2.

“I know how Filipinos miss watching movies in cinemas, which have been shut down for almost two years due to the pandemic, but now the long wait is over,” Zamora said after he inspected moviehouses at Greenhills Promenade.

He said people should take extra precaution and observe safety protocols amid the threat of COVID-19 despite the easing of restrictions.

“I want to make sure that cinemas in San Juan are safe not only for the moviegoers but for the employees of these establishments as well,” Zamora said.

The government has allowed the reopening of cinemas, spas, parks and other leisure establishments under Alert Level 2.

Under the IATF guidelines, moviehouses can operate at 50 percent capacity, but only those who are fully vaccinated will be allowed to enter.

Moviegoers are prohibited from eating inside the cinemas.

Meanwhile, the San Juan government opened its vaccination program for non-residents aged 12 to 17.

Minors who want to get COVID-19 jabs must register at #JuanVax at http://bit.ly/39Bi7ri. They will receive a text message for the schedule and venue of the vaccination.
