MANILA, Philippines — A barangay chairman in Caloocan City was shot dead by motorcycle-riding assailants on Monday night.
Gerardo Apostol, 56, was killed in front of his store along Malolos Avenue in Barangay 143 at past 6 p.m., according to Caloocan police chief Col. Samuel Mina.
Apostol’s wife, Evelyn, was hit by a bullet after she shielded him from the gunman.
She was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police probers said they have yet to establish the motive for the killing.
