MANILA, Philippines — An education official is proposing that two schools in Navotas join the pilot run of face-to-face classes.

In a letter to the Department of Education (DepEd)’s Metro Manila office, acting Navotas schools division superintendent Alejandro Ibañez said two senior high schools in the city – Filemon T. Lizan Senior High School (FTLSHS) and Bangkulasi Senior High School (BSHS) – could participate in the initial study of the in-person learning system starting Nov. 15.

Two sections of Grade 11 and 12 in FTLSHS and a Grade 12 class in BSHS, all with 15 students each, would compose the experimental classes for the study, he added.

Ibañez said only students who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 would join the pilot face-to-face classes.

The proposal would still have to be approved by the DepEd and the Department of Health, he also wrote.

Navotas City Mayor Toby Tiangco also signed the letter, signifying his agreement with the offer.

Ibañez said students who would attend classes physically should be prioritized for COVID-19 vaccination, but noted that being vaccinated would be the decision of the child and the parent or guardian.
