MANILA, Philippines — A low-pressure area spotted east of Samar will bring rains over the Visayas, Mindanao, Bicol and Palawan.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected over these areas.

The low-pressure area was estimated at 150 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar as of 3 p.m. yesterday.

PAGASA said the weather system is expected to move west-northwest toward Eastern Visayas and is less likely to develop into a tropical depression.

Moderate to heavy rains are expected over Eastern Samar, Samar, Northern Samar and Dinagat Islands.

Scattered light to moderate rains may prevail over Zamboanga peninsula, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, Surigao del Norte and the rest of the Visayas.

PAGASA said the low-pressure area is embedded in the intertropical convergence zone (ICTZ) that is also affecting Palawan, the Visayas and Mindanao.

The ICTZ and localized thunderstorms will bring isolated rains over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.

PAGASA warned the public of flashfloods and landslides during heavy rains.
