Fully vaccinated cop dies of COVID-19

MANILA, Philippines — A policeman who had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 has succumbed to the coronavirus.

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said the 52-year-old policeman assigned in Western Visayas was brought to a hospital in Iloilo City on Sept. 9 after he complained of shortness of breath.

The patient died the same day due to cardiac arrest and pneumonia. He was the 110th PNP member to die of COVID-19 since last year.

Eleazar said the policeman received his second dose of COVID vaccine on Aug. 3. He did not disclose the brand.

“I would like to extend the PNP’s sincerest condolences to the bereaved family and assure them that all benefits and assistance will be given,” Eleazar said.

The PNP recorded 229 more infections among its personnel, bringing to 2,685 the number of active cases in the police force.

Eleazar said 124,758 PNP members have been fully vaccinated while 85,877 have received their first dose.

At least 12,076 PNP members are still unvaccinated.
