Gregorio kin happy with Nuezca’s life sentence

MANILA, Philippines — Relatives of Sonia Gregorio and her son Frank Anthony has forgiven dismissed police sergeant Jonel Nuezca.

Sonia’s son Mark Christian said their family have found peace after the Tarlac Regional Trial Court Branch 106 convicted Nuezca of two counts of murder and sentenced him to life imprisonment.

”Masaya kami ng buong pamilya ko dahil ang ibinabang hatol ng korte, reclusion perpetua o 40 years na pagkakulong,” Mark Christian said in an interview over Teleradyo. ”Kailangan niya po pagdusahan yung nagawa niyang kasalanan sa amin, sa pagpatay ng aking ina at kapatid.”

He said Nuezca never apologized for shooting his mother and brother in cold blood.

“Hindi siya makakahingi ng sorry kasi wala naman
siyang communication sa amin, pero feeling ko deep inside gusto niya humingi  ng sorry,” Mark Christian said.

In an 18-page joint resolution, Judge Stela Marie Gandia-Asuncion cited the video of the shooting on Dec. 20, 2020, which went viral, as well as the testimonies of the witnesses, including the person who recorded the incident on a cell phone for Nuezca’s conviction.

With the incident behind them, Mark Christian said they could continue with their lives. He said their father could return to his work while he and his siblings could concentrate on their
studies.

Brig. Gen. Valeriano De Leon, Central Luzon police director, lauded the court for the swift ruling on Nuezca’s case.

De Leon noted that it took less than a year for the court to hand down a guilty verdict.
