Pampanga town under state of calamity

SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, Philippines — Another town in Pampanga was placed under a state of calamity last Friday due to floods spawned by the southwest monsoon.

The municipal government of Santo Tomas approved a resolution placing the town under a state of calamity due to incessant rains that submerged several barangays.

The municipal risk reduction and management council reported that more than 4,000 families have been displaced by the floods for three weeks now. All seven barangays remain under water.

The floods destroyed P872,301 worth of the town’s agricultural products.

Damage to the fishery sector was estimated at more than P1 million.

Earlier, the town of San Simon was placed under a state of calamity due to continuous rain.
