Pateros residents caught drinking won’t get aid

MANILA, Philippines — Residents of Pateros will not receive ayuda or aid if they are caught drinking liquor, Mayor Miguel Ponce III said on Wednesday.

Ponce said he received reports that some residents continued their drinking sessions in public places despite the liquor ban.

“Dahil may pang-inom kayo at siguro hindi kayo nahihirapan sa pandemya, kapag may ayudang ibibigay ang pamahalaan tatanggalin ko ang mga pangalan ninyo sa listahan,” Ponce said.

The national government had announced that Metro Manila residents affected by the two-week lockdown would receive P1,000 to P4,000 in cash assistance.

Owners of stores selling liquor and other alcoholic drinks will also be excluded from receiving aid, according to Ponce.

The local government reimposed the liquor ban to avoid mass gatherings and prevent the transmission of COVID-19.

Pateros has inoculated 47,155 residents out of 49,000 target vaccine recipients to achieve herd immunity.

Ponce appealed to senior citizens to get vaccinated.
