MANILA, Philippines — Manila Mayor Isko Moreno yesterday led the groundbreaking for the construction of the new Manila Science High School along Taft Avenue amounting to P1.3 billion.
Moreno said it was only fitting to provide the city’s best students and “cream of the crop” a modern school that is more conducive to learning.
The school building, which will occupy a total lot area of 3,690.80 square meters, will have 11 floors and a roofdeck. It will be served by five elevators, each with a 24-person capacity.
The building will have 158 air-conditioned classrooms, a library, a canteen, an auditorium, a gymnasium and an outdoor sports arena.
“Building this school is our way of increasing the city’s economy. We also want to address the problem of teacher-student ratio in our public education system,” Moreno said.
Two other public schools in Manila will be constructed this year: the 10-story building at the Rosauro Almario Elementary School in Tondo and Dr. Alejandro Albert Elementary School in Sampaloc.
The city government has allocated over P5 billion for the construction of the three modernized public schools.
