PNP to cooperate in DOJ’s drug war probe

PNP chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar made the assurance after Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said they would review the cases involving police offcers who have been absolved by the Internal Affairs Service.

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police yesterday vowed to cooperate in the review by the Department of Justice (DOJ) of cases of PNP members who have been cleared of liability in the deaths of drug suspects during law enforcement operations.

PNP chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar made the assurance after Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said they would review the cases involving police offcers who have been absolved by the Internal Affairs Service (IAS).

“If the DOJ will push through with the review of the cases of those who were already cleared, I will guarantee full cooperation,” Eleazar said.

He said they would forward any case folder that would be requested by the DOJ.

“Seryoso ang PNP sa pakikipagtulungan sa DOJ at handa kaming panagutin ang mga pulis na mapatutunayang nagkasala sa batas,” he said.

Eleazar said they have nothing to hide in the PNP’s implementation of President Duterte’s war on drugs.

The PNP had submitted 53 case folders resolved by the IAS, which saw lapses on the part of police officers involved in anti-narcotics operations.
