BGC bridge ready for partial opening – Villar

MANILA, Philippines — It is all systems go for the partial opening of the Sta. Monica-Lawton bridge project on June 12, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar announced yesterday.

“As promised, Kalayaan Avenue, Makati City leading to Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City will be connected to Pasig /Mandaluyong by the Sta. Monica-Lawton Bridge on the historic day our nation commemorates its 123rd Independence Day,” he said.

With this bridge, BGC will be connected to Pasig and Mandaluyong with a travel time of 12 minutes.

At present, the DPWH is conducting safety checks and putting finishing touches on the four-lane 440-meter bridge, which is part of the P1.79-billion BGC-Ortigas Center Link Road project.

The project also involves the rehabilitation and widening of 476.58-meter Brixton (corner Reliance street) to Fairlane street and 232.34-meter BGC-8th Avenue, construction of 125-meter upward and downward ramps at Kalayaan Avenue intersection and the construction of Lawton Avenue – Global City viaduct, according to Emil Sadain, Undersecretary for Unified Project Management Office operations.

Persan Construction Inc. – which formed a joint venture with Sino Road and Bridge Group Co. Ltd. and is supported by consultants DCCD Partners and Pertconsult International – is committed to deliver the viaduct structure traversing Lawton Avenue to the BGC entrance by the last quarter of 2021.

The BGC-Ortigas Center Link Road project is one of the major Build, Build, Build undertakings to improve the traffic situation along EDSA and other major roads in Metro Manila.

It was designed to accommodate an estimated 20 percent of the traffic volume of EDSA and C-5 Road.
