9 more UK variant cases detected in Kalinga

Artemio Dumlao - The Philippine Star

BAGUIO CITY , Philippines — Another nine cases of the United Kingdom variant of COVID-19 were detected in Kalinga recently.

The new cases prompted the Kalinga provincial health office to remind the public to strictly observe health protocols.

The cases were recorded in the towns of Lubuagan Pasil, Rizal and Tanudan, with one each.

Four other cases were detected in Kalinga’s capital city of Tabuk, according to the Cordilleras’ center for health development.

Kalinga has recorded a total of 19 UK variant cases since January.

The local health office urged residents to wear medical grade face masks like the N95 to protect themselves from the virus.

It said ordinary face masks are not 100 percent effective in preventing the infection, noting that the UK variant spreads easily and rapidly.

Residents have been advised to observe social distancing to avoid contracting COVID.
