Elderly woman dies in Caloocan fire

MANILA, Philippines — A 65-year-old woman died when a fire broke out at her house in Caloocan before dawn yesterday.

Joana Makawili was found dead in the toilet of the house at BF Homes in Barangay 168, according to a dzMM report.

Arson probers said the fire reached the first alarm at past 3 a.m. and was put out after more than one hour.

In Manila, two fires were also reported in Tondo and San Andres Bukid yesterday.

The fire that struck the house of Manny Lim along Mabagos street in Tondo reached third alarm at around 8:40 a.m. and was contained at past 11 a.m., according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

The BFP said 60 families were left homeless. Damage to property was estimated at P500,000.

Six houses were destroyed in a fire that struck San Andres Bukid, leaving 13 families homeless.
