MANILA, Philippines — Mayor Gwen Palafox-Yamamoto of Bani town has tested positive for COVID-19.

Yamamoto announced the result of her reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction test on Monday. She said she has mild symptoms.

Saying COVID is real, she advised the public to always observe minimum health protocols.

Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police (PNP) recorded 110 new COVID-19 cases among its personnel yesterday, three of the patients infected for the second time.

PNP deputy chief for administration Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said 94 of the new patients are assigned in various regional offices, 31 of them in Cagayan Valley, 13 in Western Visayas and nine in Ilocos. Metro Manila logged seven new cases.

Fifteen of the patients are from various administrative and operational support units of the PNP. One is from Camp Crame.

There are 1,641 active COVID-19 cases in the police force, 49 of whom are being treated in hospitals for moderate to severe symptoms.

At least 20,616 PNP members have contracted the virus since last year. Fifty-six have died while 18,919 or 91.76 percent of the patients have recovered.

Eleazar said 12,203 police personnel have been vaccinated against COVID-19. At least 10,155 received Sinovac jabs from China.
