3 Lanao del Sur mayors surrender loose guns

Roel Pareño - The Philippine Star

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Three town mayors in Lanao del Sur surrendered high-powered firearms on Thursday.

Lt. Col. Rafman Altre, 82nd Infantry Battalion commander, said he had a dialogue with the mayors of Buadipuso Buntong, Ditsaan Ramain and Bubong to seek assistance in the campaign against loose firearms.

Altre said the local chief executives led their residents in the surrender of two .50-caliber sniper rifles, two M79 grenade launchers, a carbine, a submachine gun and a .38-caliber revolver in Saguiran town.

He expressed confidence that other town mayors would help in the recovery of loose firearms in the province.

Brig. Gen. Jose Maria Cuerpo II of the 103rd Infantry Brigade said the campaign against loose firearms has degraded the capability of Dawlah Islamiya, Maute and other terrorist groups.
