Duterte signs law creating 2 new Rizal districts

MANILA, Philippines — President Duterte has signed into law a measure dividing the second legislative district of Rizal into three.

Republic Act 11533, which was signed on March 25, will take effect in the 2022 elections.

Under the law, Cardona, Baras, Tanay, Morong, Jala-Jala, Pililla and Teresa will comprise the second legislative district of Rizal.

San Mateo will comprise the third district and Rodriguez the fourth district.

The Commission on Elections is tasked to issue the implementing rules and regulations within 30 days after the effectivity of the law.

Sen. Francis Tolentino said the measure would promote proper representation, help local government units better respond to the needs of their constituents and facilitate the long-term rehabilitation of the province from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
