Go sends aid to Davao City fire victims

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The office of Sen. Bong Go has extended additional aid for the residents of Barangay Leon Garcia in Agdao, Davao City, whose houses were damaged in a fire late last year.

Go assured the families that the government would not abandon them, especially when calamities or disasters strike.

He told them that he as well as President Duterte, Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, Vice Mayor Baste Duterte, Rep. Paolo Duterte and Rep. Vincent Garcia are ready to help and serve them.

Sixty-six families received meals, food and medicine packs, vitamins, medical-grade masks and face shields during an activity conducted by the senator’s team at the Leon Garcia Sr. National High School on March 25.

Select beneficiaries were given new pairs of shoes and bicycles for their commute to work.

Others received computer tablets and gadgets for their children’s online schooling.

As part of the ongoing government efforts to deliver assistance to communities recovering from crisis, personnel of the National Housing Authority (NHA) were at the event to assess households that need financial support to rebuild or repair their fire-damaged houses.

Go offered to assist any beneficiary who needs medical care and encouraged them to seek further assistance from the government by visiting the Malasakit Center at the Southern Philippines Medical Center.

The center is a one-stop shop that provides patients quick access to medical assistance and programs offered by concerned government agencies.

Go thanked local officials – Barangay Leon Garcia chair Lita Empis; councilmen Tommy Rica, Citiaco Jorolan, Rowena Balbes and Arturo Yu, and Sangguniang Kabataan chair Arian Sagusara as well as NHA regional manager Zenaida Cabiles – for looking after the welfare of the fire victims.

The distribution activity was conducted in batches and under strict observance of the minimum health protocols like social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
