House panels concur with Duterte’s amnesty proclamations

MANILA, Philippines — Two committees at the House of Representatives adopted yesterday four resolutions concurring with President Duterte’s proclamations granting amnesty to members of rebel groups who have committed crimes in pursuit of their political beliefs.

The justice as well as national defense and security committees headed by Reps. Vicente Veloso of Leyte and Raul Tupas of Iloilo, respectively, adopted Concurrent Resolutions 12, 13, 14 and 15 during a hearing held via Zoom.

The resolutions concur with the proclamations granting amnesty to members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, Moro National Liberation Front and Alex Boncayao Brigade and former communist rebels, which the President issued on Feb 5.

Speaker Lord Allan Velasco and Majority Leader Martin Romualdez gave assurance that they would expedite the approval of the resolutions in plenary.

”We are one with President Duterte’s efforts to attain peace and  reconciliation in the country,” Romualdez said.
