85 Ilocos centenarians receive P100,000

DAGUPAN CITY, Philippines — Eighty-five centenarians from Ilocos region received P100,000 each in financial assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) this year.

Data gathered by The STAR from the DSWD-Ilocos office showed the beneficiaries included 29 each in Ilocos Norte and Pangasinan, 23 in La Union and four in Ilocos Sur.

Laoag in Ilocos Norte topped the cities in the region with the most number of centenarians who received the benefit within the same period.

Manaoag in Pangasinan topped the municipalities with six beneficiaries.

Data also showed that 66 female and 19 male centenarians in region benefited from the DSWD program this year.

Pangasinan board member Chinky-Perez Tababa authored a resolution seeking to honor and grant cash incentives to the centenarians.
