Quakes jolt Mindoro

MANILA, Philippines — Two earthquakes rocked Occidental Mindoro yesterday.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said a magnitude 5 quake occurred at 7:24 a.m., with its epicenter located 63 kilometers southwest of San Jose town.

The quake was felt at Intensity 4, which is classified as moderately strong, in San Jose and Magsaysay, Occidental Mindoro and Bulalacao, Oriental Mindoro.

It was felt at Intensity 2 in Rizal, Occidental Mindoro and Malay, Aklan and Intensity 1 in Nabas, also in Aklan.

No damage was expected from the quake, but Phivolcs warned the public of aftershocks.

A magnitude 3.7 quake struck 89 kms southwest of San Jose at 7:50 a.m.while a magnitude 4.1 quake hit seven kms northwest of Dalupiri Island in Calayan, Cagayan at 10:51 a.m.

In Mindanao, four residents of North Cotabato and five of Davao del Sur and Sarangani were injured when 20 houses were destroyed due to the magnitudes 6.3 and 4.3 quakes that occurred on Sunday.
