LEGAZPI CITY , Philippines — Suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels killed two barangay officials in Aroroy, Masbate on Tuesday.

Victorino Bravo III and Arnel Retanan, councilor and watchman, respectively, of Barangay Cabas-an, were reportedly snatched by the rebels with village chief Aniano Capinig, 62, but the latter managed to escape.

The three barangay officials are rebel returnees.

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Debold Sinas yesterday vowed justice for the slain barangay officials even as he ordered the Masbate police to provide security to Capinig.

Sinas said state security forces have established land and sea blockades in Aroroy and Baleno towns.

“This is a crime and under no circumstance shall the PNP allow any violation of law and atrocities by the CPP (Communist Party of the Philippines)-NPA that threatens the lives of ordinary and innocent people who could not defend themselves,” he said. – Emmanuel Tupas
