MPD to enforce protocols for Sto. Niño feast
MANILA, Philippines — The Manila Police District (MPD) will strictly enforce physical distancing and age limits during the feast of the Sto. Niño in Tondo and Pandacan this weekend, an official said yesterday.
Police officers will allow only individuals aged 15 to 65 to enter churches, MPD director Brig. Gen. Leo Francisco said in a dzMM interview.
Those under the influence of alcohol would also be banned from entering churches since a liquor ban is in effect, he added.
Churches would have designated entrance and exit points, which would be strictly enforced, Francisco said. He urged devotees to stay home and pray instead in order to curb the spread of COVID-19.
Earlier in the week, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno signed a measure banning street parties, stage shows, parades and other activities during the feast to prevent the spread of the virus.
Several streets in the city would also be closed to vehicular traffic during the feast.
