Strong aftershocks jolt Surigao Sur

MANILA, Philippines — Six aftershocks of a magnitude 5.7 earthquake that struck Surigao del Sur on Sept. 21 occurred yesterday.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the strongest was a magnitude 5.3, the epicenter of which was located 63 kilometers off Bayabas at around 6:10 a.m.

The quake was felt at Intensity 4, which is classified as moderately strong, also in Bayabas.

The other aftershocks had magnitudes ranging from 4.0 to 4.9.

Phivolcs said no damage was expected from the quakes.
