New columbarium to rise in Makati

Ralph Edwin Villanueva - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The public cemetery in Makati will be demolished to allow for the construction of a columbarium in the city beginning next month, Mayor Abby Binay announced over the weekend.

“Through this project, Makatizens need not worry anymore about expensive funeral services. This will also address the shortage of burial spaces in the city,” Binay said in a statement.

“With free cremation and interment services, city residents, regardless of their economic stature, will have a decent burial,” Binay added.

Based on the site development plan, the columbarium will initially have two buildings to house a chapel, viewing areas, a cremation site and around 15,000 urn vaults.
