Girl, 6, raped, killed in Leyte

TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines — A six-year-old girl reported missing in Tanauan, Leyte on Thursday and believed to be a victim of rape was found dead in a grassy lot on Friday.

The suspect, said to be an uncle of the victim, was arrested.

Capt. Delfin Bardillon of the Tanauan police said the suspect executed an extrajudicial confession that he raped and strangled the girl to death.

In San Carlos City in Pangasinan, police filed charges on Friday against a deaf man for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl said to be suffering from a mental illness.

Capt. Arturo Melchor, city police chief, said the suspect was a drug surrenderee.
