Cop shoots 3 colleagues, holds son hostage

MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) has ordered an investigation of a police officer who shot three of his colleagues in Quezon City on Thursday.

QCPD director Brig. Gen. Ronnie Montejo has directed the probe of the suspect, Lt. Emmanuel Jovero, who is assigned at the personnel holding and accounting unit of the Directorate for Personnel and Records Management at Camp Crame.

Jovero shot his neighbor, Pat. Nurruhudin Salahudin, as well as Cpls. John Mark Forayo and Romeo Tandayu of QCPD Station 7, who responded to a report of a hostage-taking along 1st street in Barangay Bagong Lipunan ng Crame at around 6:30 a.m., Montejo said in a statement.

Jovero took Salahudin and another neighbor, Pat. Romesyl Destura, hostage at gunpoint and brought them to his house.

Forayo and Tandayu tried to pacify Jovero, who used his 17-year-old son as a shield when  he shot the responding lawmen. He then went to the bathroom, where he noticed he sustained a gunshot wound.

It was at this point that Salahuddin grabbed Jovero’s firearm, which went off. A bullet hit Jovero’s son in the left knee.

Probers have yet to determine Jovero’s motive.
