MANILA, Philippines — A low-pressure area was spotted off Guiuan, Eastern Samar yesterday and is expected to bring rains over some parts of the country in the next 24 hours.

As of 3 p.m. yesterday, the low-pressure area was located 480 kilometers east of Guiuan, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

PAGASA said the weather disturbance and the intertropical convergence zone would bring scattered rains and thunderstorms over Bicol, Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan), Northern Mindanao and the Visayas.

The low-pressure area has a slim chance of intensifying into a tropical depression and might dissipate within the next 24 hours as it approaches the Visayas, PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja said.

Apart from isolated rains due to thunderstorms, fair weather will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon and Mindanao.

Two to four tropical cyclones are predicted to enter the Philippine area of responsibility this month.
