P5.1 billion shabu seized in Bulacan

BULACAN, Philippines — At least 756 kilos of shabu with an estimated street value of P5.1 billion were seized in a raid on a house in Marilao, Bulacan yesterday.

Drug Enforcement Group director Brig. Gen. Romeo Caramat Jr. said Chinese citizen Yuwen Cai and Filipinos Angela and Ma. Lyn, both surnamed Tulio, were arrested.

“We have worked on this operation for several months,” Caramat said.

He said they are investigating if the drugs, which were supposed to be distributed to Metro Manila and Central Luzon, came from the Chinese-run Golden Triangle drug ring based in China and Hong Kong.

In Laguna, Samson Tan, also a Chinese citizen, with alleged links to an international drug ring was arrested in a sting on Wednesday.

Tan initially yielded 500 grams of shabu valued at P3.4 million in Barangay Don Jose in Sta. Rosa City, according to Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency director general Wilkins Villanueva.

Anti-narcotics agents recovered 600 grams of shabu worth P4.08 million when they raided a clandestine laboratory at Tan’s house in Barangay Loma, Biñan City in a followup operation.

Tan’s alleged cohorts Ansadin Kamid and Dexter Saliek were arrested while a 13-year-old boy was rescued.

Villanueva said Tan had been under surveillance for three months.

Tan was arrested in 2008 and convicted in 2013. He was released from the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City in 2018 after the Court of Appeals overturned his conviction.
