Metro Manila residents still afraid to go to malls – Galvez
MANILA, Philippines — Residents of Metro Manila appear to be still be afraid of going to malls even after the metropolis was put under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) on May 16, an official said on Thursday night.
Carlito Galvez Jr., chief implementer of the National Task Force on COVID-19 or the coronavirus disease 2019, reported to President Duterte that when they checked the malls, visitors were only “10 to 20 percent of the mall capacity… it’s like… people are still afraid to go to the malls.”
He said since May 16, malls opened only 20 to 30 percent of their operations.
“The area of the malls that are filled with people is the supermarket. But we saw that those who opened are observing precautions,” Galvez said.
Mall administrators, according to Galvez, are hopeful that they can gradually return to full operations.
