2 held for overpriced medical supplies

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — A former television host and her partner were arrested in Carmona, Cavite on Sunday for allegedly selling medical supplies above the suggested retail price set by the government.

Tristan Joy Calip, 35, former host of UNTV, and Jefferson Castillo, 36, were collared following a sting in Barangay 8 that resulted in the recovery of medical items worth P113,000, according to Brig. Gen. Dennis Agustin, chief of the police anti-cybercrime group.

Police said they seized from the suspects 20 pieces of thermal scanners, 21 boxes of disposable face masks and receipts.

The suspects, who engaged in online selling, reportedly sell a piece of thermal scanner for P4,500 when its suggested retail price is only P3,400.

Police said the suspects will be charged for violating Republic Act 7581 or the Price Control Act, RA 7394 or the Consumer Act and RA 11469 or Bayanihan to Heal as One Act.
