PUV drivers told: Wear face masks vs coronavirus
MANILA, Philippines — Amid the threat of novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) yesterday ordered drivers and conductors of public utility vehicles (PUVs) to wear face masks during work hours.
The LTFRB issued a memorandum circular for PUV drivers and conductors to wear face masks while on duty.
The agency also ordered terminal operators to ensure proper sanitation and cleanliness in their premises.
Face masks, disinfectants and sanitizers for the use of passengers should be provided by the transport operators, the LTFRB said.
“Precautionary measures are necessary in light of the nCoV scare to ensure the safety of the riding public,” the LTFRB said.
LTFRB officials also reminded jeepney and bus drivers to provide transport services to anyone regardless of gender, nationality and disability.
The regulatory board issued the reminder amid reports that some taxi drivers are refusing Chinese passengers.
Sanctions and revocation of license will be imposed on drivers found rejecting passengers, the LTFRB said.
