Slain vice mayor’s wife sued for libel

MANILA, Philippines — Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office director Sandra Cam yesterday filed three counts of libel against the widow of slain Batuan, Masbate Vice Mayor Charlie Yuson III.

Cam, through her lawyer, filed the case against Lalaine Yuson before the Manila prosecutor’s office for implicating her in the killing.

Cam’s lawyer Rizal Balbin said they would be filing about 20 libel cases against other personalities, including media members.

Lalaine had accused Cam of supposedly masterminding the murder of Yuson, who was shot dead while having breakfast in an eatery in Sampaloc, Manila on Oct. 9.

Cam said the vice mayor’s wife should have waited for the results of the probe before tagging her in the murder.

On Friday, four suspects in the killing were freed from police detention after the city prosecutor’s office ordered their release “for further investigation.”
