ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — A college student armed with a machete was shot dead after he allegedly ran amok and attacked soldiers manning a checkpoint in Barangay Kajatian, Indanan, Sulu on Monday.
Authorities identified the amok as Fersaudi Arabani, a second year information and technology student at the Mindanao State University.
“The soldiers tried to control him, but he continued to attack them while shouting Allahu Akbar,” Maj. Arvin Encinas, Western Mindanao Command spokesman, said.
A soldier was wounded.
Encinas said they are checking if Arabani was affiliated with any militant group.
