GSIS offers loan to dengue victims

MANILA, Philippines — The state-run Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has opened an emergency loan facility for its members affected by the dengue outbreak in Samar, Capiz and Palawan.

The GSIS said P633 million was earmarked for its members and pensioners in Samar, Pontevedra and Sigma in Capiz and Sofronio Española in Palawan, where an increase in the number of dengue cases was reported.

GSIS members in Samar, Pontevedra and Sigma have until Sept. 20 to avail themselves of the loan while those in Palawan can apply until Sept. 22.

The GSIS also offers emergency loan to its members in areas under a state of calamity.

Emergency loans are payable in 36 months with an interest of six percent per annum.

The GSIS said the loan is covered by a redemption insurance, which deems the loan fully paid in case of the borrower’s death provided that repayment is up-to-date.

Under the program, GSIS members and pensioners with no existing emergency loans may borrow P20,000. Those with pending loans may be given P40,000, from which the balance will be deducted.
