Cashier hurt, P1 million lost in Quezon City heist
MANILA, Philippines — A cashier of a convenience store lost P1 million in cash after he was shot by a robber in Quezon City yesterday.
Dexter Portillo, 34, is recuperating at an undisclosed hospital from gunshot wounds in his legs, said Capt. Rohaina Asalan, spokesperson of the Quezon City Police District.
Portillo was about to deposit the convenience store’s earnings, about P1 million, at a bank along Visayas Avneue in Barangay Vasra at around 2:15 p.m. when the suspect approached him and grabbed his bag, Asalan said.
The unidentified robber, armed with a handgun of unknown caliber, shot the victim when he resisted.
The robber escaped from the scene on foot with the loot. Bystanders brought Portillo to a hospital for medical treatment.
Police have launched a manhunt for the robber.
